NFL Team Doctor Calls 'BS' on Tush Push Concerns amid Rule Change Vote, Says Daniel

One team doctor inside the NFL pushed back against a justification behind the idea of banning the tush push, according to The Athletic's Chase Daniel.

Daniel said in the newest episode of the Scoop City podcast the doctor believes "there is zero data" that says the tush push creates added health and safety concerns for players.

ESPN's Kalyn Kahler reported Sunday some member of the NFL's competition committee are in favor of banning the play. The idea was first brought forth by the Green Bay Packers, who cited player safety and pace of play as the reasons for their effort.

Packers head coach Matt LaFleur addressed the story Tuesday and asserted the tush push is "more of a rugby play." He also referenced supposed "injury concerns."

Echoing what Daniel said, Kahler wrote in her story the player safety aspect lacks any hard evidence.

"Multiple sources who have been in competition committee meetings about the play told ESPN there was no injury data to support the ban, but rather a hypothetical conversation centered on potential injuries," she said.

Without that empirical data, it looks like the Packers and any other team in favor of the ban simply want to nullify what has been a competitive advantage for the Philadelphia Eagles.

Others have tried the tush push, yet none has been as successful as Philly. Even the retirement of legendary center Jason Kelce did little to impact the Eagles' performance in short-yardage situations.

If the Packers can't counteract the tush push on the field, then it looks like they're reverting to legislative means.
