Tush Push Ban Proposal Reportedly Has 'Support' Within NFL's Competition Committee
The Green Bay Packers are reportedly not the only team that might have interest in banning the tush push.
Per ESPN's Kalyn Kahler, the Packers' proposal to get the Philadelphia Eagles' signature play banned from the NFL has support within the competition committee. Kahler added that the subject is expected to be "hotly contested" at league meetings this week.
The Packers first suggested banning the tush push last month, and it has since gained some traction.

Green Bay general manager Brian Gutekunst discussed the proposal at the NFL combine. He said that, at the time, he still needed some evidence to help build his case against it, adding that his team is not good at defending it.
"I know we're not very successful against it, I know that. But to be honest with you, I have not put much thought into it. It's been around for a while," Gutekunst told reporters. "We've used it in different fashions with our tight end [Tucker Kraft]. I think there will be a lot of discussions about it. I've got to kind of look at some of the information as far as injury rates and things like that, but we'll see."
While a handful of teams are reportedly interested in getting rid of the play, others won't be as quick to ban it.
Miami Dolphins head coach Mike McDaniel said he'd have a "hard time" voting to ban the play just because it's successful, though he said it would be a "different thing" if evidence suggested that the play is unsafe.
Ahead of league meetings, Eagles head coach Nick Sirianni made light of his signature play potentially being banned, suggesting that his former coaches should not support a tush push ban.
"We’ll see how it goes. All I will say about it is [Jonathan] Gannon, [Shane] Steichen and [Kellen] Moore better vote for it," Sirianni said, per NFL Network's Mike Garafolo. "They are in the [head coach] position right now because of that play. So all three, I better have those three votes right there and the Eagles’ vote. I at least know we have four."
The Eagles, fresh off a dominant Super Bowl victory, will survive if the tush push is banned, though they'll have to find a new strategy on short-yardage situations.
