Titans Reportedly 'Pretty Sold on' Cam Ward But 'Not a Slam Dunk' to be Drafted No. 1

Joseph ZuckerMar 30, 2025

Miami quarterback Cam Ward continues to be the consensus choice for the Tennessee Titans with the No. 1 overall pick in the 2025 NFL draft, according to ESPN's Jeremy Fowler.

Fowler reported Sunday on SportsCenter there's "momentum around the league that he'll be the No. 1 pick, not a slam dunk."

"The Tennessee Titans descended upon the Miami area at noon on Friday," the NFL insider said. "They had the whole cavalry, GM, president, assistant general manager, head coach, offensive coordinator, all to workout Cam Ward. And I was told they really did it only because they can and it's part of the process, but they've seen him throw a lot. They're already pretty sold on him."

Earlier this week, Titans general manager Mike Borgonzi insisted that "everything is still on the table." Until the pick is submitted to NFL commissioner Roger Goodell, Tennessee could theoretically trade down or select someone other than Ward.

It looks increasingly like Ward is the team's preferred option, though.

Head coach Brian Callahan told NFL Network's Tom Pelissero the Titans have "a short list at No. 1 for sure." He listed off Ward along with Colorado's Travis Hunter and Shedeur Sanders and Penn State edge-rusher Abdul Carter.

The Titans are the first team on the clock for a reason. They suffered 14 losses in 2024 and still need to upgrade at multiple positions even after free agency.

But finding the right quarterback will go a long way toward accelerating Tennessee's rebuild, and Ward is the best signal-caller available. He ranks ahead of Sanders on Bleacher Report's big board and is the No. 9 overall prospect.

Absent an overwhelming trade offer coming in for the Titans, it's hard to see them turning away from the most obvious strategy to lead off the draft.
