Boston Red Sox rookie Kristian Campbell is in "deep talks" about a contract extension just three games into his MLB career, according to MassLive's Chris Cotillo.

Cotillo's report comes hours after Campbell hit his first career home run in Saturday's 4-3 loss to the Texas Rangers.

Campbell confirmed Saturday night that he has been in talks with the Red Sox, per Mac Cerullo of the Boston Herald. He indicated there has "been a lot of back and forth between the two sides," according to Cerullo.

"We'll listen, for sure," Campbell said, per WEEI's Rob Bradford.

Campbell, 22, made his MLB debut on Opening Day of the 2025 season.

He was named the MLB Pipeline Hitting Prospect of the Year after slashing .330/.439/.558 through three minor-league levels during his breakout 2024 season.

Campbell finished his lone 2023 season at Georgia Tech with just one triple and four home runs before he was selected as a compensatory fourth-round pick in the 2023 draft.

He played 22 games during his debut pro season in 2024 before the Red Sox asked him to make changes to his approach at the plate, according to MLB.com's Jim Callis.

According to Callis, the Red Sox "asked him to change the path of his right-handed swing to launch more balls in the air."

After hitting one home run during his first pro season, Campbell improved hit 20 homers in 2024.

Despite watching Campbell bat .167 in the Grapefruit League after going 8-for-48 this spring, Red Sox manager Alex Cora gave him a vote of confidence by making him the club's starting second baseman ahead of Opening Day.

So far that decision has paid off for Cora. Campbell has recorded five hits and drawn two walks in 10 at-bats through his first three MLB games.

Campbell is currently under team control through 2027, per Spotrac.
