Travis Hunter Reportedly Eyed by Cowboys' Jerry Jones amid 2025 NFL Draft Rumors

Mike ChiariMar 28, 2025

The Dallas Cowboys reportedly may be looking for a way to move up and select one of the top talents in the 2025 NFL draft.

During a conversation on her Scoop City podcast, Dianna Russini of The Athletic said she has been told Cowboys owner and general manager Jerry Jones "really likes" Colorado wide receiver and cornerback Travis Hunter.

The Cowboys own the No. 12 overall pick in the draft after going a disappointing 7-10, but there is no chance of Hunter dropping that far.

As the No. 1 recruit in college football, Hunter shockingly began his career at FCS Jackson State alongside head coach Deion Sanders before following Sanders to Colorado for the 2023 and 2024 seasons.

Hunter immediately established himself as one of the most unique and dynamic players in FBS college football due to his ability to play on both sides of the ball.

During his first season at Colorado, he recorded 57 receptions for 721 yards and five touchdowns, while also registering 30 tackles, three interceptions and five passes defended.

As impressive as that was, Hunter took his game to a new level last season at both wideout and corner.

Hunter racked up 96 grabs for 1,258 yards and 15 touchdowns, plus 36 tackles, four picks and 11 passes defended en route to winning the Heisman Trophy.

While Hunter could go as high as No. 1 overall to the Tennessee Titans, they have a need at quarterback, as do the Cleveland Browns and New York Giants at Nos. 2 and 3.

Cam Ward and possibly Shedeur Sanders could be among the top three picks, leaving Hunter and Penn State's pass-rusher Abdul Carter as the top non-quarterback prospects.

As a result, it is difficult to envision Hunter falling past the New England Patriots at No. 4 overall.

On its latest big board, the BR NFL Scouting Department ranked Hunter as the No. 1 overall player in the draft, and it predicted Hunter to go third overall to the Giants in its latest mock draft.

It would likely take a ton of draft capital for the Cowboys to trade up high enough to take Hunter, but he would be a dream fit in Dallas.

The Cowboys need another high-end wide receiver to complement CeeDee Lamb, but they could also use another boundary corner after Trevon Diggs tore his ACL in December.

Hunter would fill at least one of those needs and potentially even both, but finding a team willing to trade down and pass on a talent of his caliber is perhaps wishful thinking.
