Mike Vrabel Says Patriots Are 'Supporting' Drake Maye with Stefon Diggs Contract
New England Patriots head coach Mike Vrabel said on the Green Light Podcast with ex-defensive lineman Chris Long that the team is "supporting" quarterback Drake Maye by adding veteran wide receiver Stefon Diggs, who agreed to a three-year, $69 million contract (11:29 mark).
"It's just trying to make sure that we're supporting Drake and supporting the football team," Vrabel began.

Jaguars' Hypothetical Alvin Kamara Trade Offer
"And again, this is a highly competitive, confident receiver that's produced throughout his career in multiple ways. Play style, he's got a play strength to him that you see, that you can play physical. Route craft, good at the catch point, he's been good in the red zone. There's a play style to him that I've always appreciated and that we want to continue to enhance and make sure he's doing things that help us.
"It's just his conversation, his demeanor, his attitude, and his presence have been great through our conversations, and hopefully we can continue to add good players."
The Patriots have added a pair of former Buffalo Bills in Diggs (2020-2023) and Mack Hollins (2024) to their receiver room this offseason. New England sorely needed more pass-catching talent, especially with the leading receiver (tight end Hunter Henry) pacing the team with 66 catches and 674 yards in 2024.
That's a solid year for a tight end, but it was also a sign that the Pats needed more wideout help with no one else eclipsing those numbers.
Enter Diggs, who had 47 catches for 496 yards and four touchdowns (including one rushing) in eight games last year before a torn ACL ended his season.
If he's able to return to his pre-injury form, then that's a huge win for the Patriots and also a young quarterback in Maye who showed great potential in year one.
