Orioles' Tyler O'Neill Extends MLB Record with 6th Straight Opening Day HR
Tyler O'Neill always brings his best on Opening Day, and that remained true this year.
The Baltimore Orioles outfielder hit a three-run, opposite-field home run in the top of the third inning against the Toronto Blue Jays on Thursday, extending his Opening Day home run streak to six consecutive seasons.

Last year, O'Neill came into the season tied with Todd Hundley (1994-97), Gary Carter (1977-80) and Yogi Berra (1955-58) for the most Opening Day home runs in a row with four. He took the record for himself with a homer in the eighth inning against the Seattle Mariners while still a member of the Boston Red Sox.
Before the start of the season, O'Neill said the streak is nice, but it's not his main focus.
“Obviously, it’s nice to start the season out with a bang, but I’m not trying to go out there and hit homers or anything like that,” he told reporters. “I’m just trying to stay to my game plan and take my at-bats I normally would any other day. A little more adrenaline with Opening Day and lineup announcement, the national anthem is much better. Just everything’s a lot more fun for everyone, I guess.
“Last year I knew what was going on, so that was pretty cool and an awesome feeling for me, but it doesn’t really matter going forward. I just try to play a full season and make sure I can do what I can do on a daily basis.”
O'Neill spent the first six seasons of his career with the St. Louis Cardinals before joining the Red Sox in 2024. He inked a three-year, $49.5 million deal with Baltimore this offseason.
O'Neill had an outstanding season last year with 31 home runs, three shy of tying his career high. With one home run already under his belt, he'll look to put together another strong year with the Orioles.
