Abdul Carter Won't Work Out at Penn State Pro Day amid NFL Draft Rumors

Edge-rusher Abdul Carter will not work out Friday during Penn State's pro day, his agent Drew Rosenhaus confirmed Thursday.

Rosenhaus confirmed the news to Adam Schefter of ESPN after CBS Sports' Jonathan Jones reported Carter would not participate. Rosenhaus said Carter is "finishing up" rehab on his shoulder injury and may work out for teams in mid-April.

Carter underwent tests at February's scouting combine that revealed a stress reaction in his right foot. NFL Network's Ian Rapoport reported the injury would not require surgery.

Rosenhaus previously said as of Feb. 27 that Carter would be recovered from both his shoulder and foot injuries in time for pro day.

Carter is projected as the No. 4 pick in Bleacher Report's latest mock draft.

The edge-rusher didn't work out at the scouting combine in late February due to a shoulder injury in the second quarter of Penn State's New Year's CFP quarterfinal win over Boise State, Rosenhaus told reporters.

Rosenhaus said at the combine he had forwarded NFL teams a letter from Dallas Cowboys head team physician Dr. Dan Cooper that said Carter had been "medically cleared to resume training," per ESPN's Jeff Legwold.

Carter said while speaking to reporters at the combine that he was "probably about 90 percent right now, but this next month is when I really start to get close to 100."

After the discovery of Carter's right foot injury, NFL.com's Christian Gonzales wrote on Feb. 27 that the edge-rusher was considering two options, per Rosenhaus and Rapoport: Undergo "pre-emptive surgery and have a screw inserted in his right foot" before taking an anticipated eight weeks to recover, or to skip the surgery and work out at pro day to "prove to NFL teams that he doesn't need the surgery."

He ultimately decided to skip the surgery, per Rapoport.

Carter recorded 12.0 sacks in 16 games during his senior season while leading the FBS with 24 tackles for loss, but concerns over his injuries limiting his explosive speed could hurt his stock heading into the April 24 draft.
