Deion Sanders Says Jerry Jones Showed Interest But Didn't Offer Cowboys HC Job
Deion Sanders seemed like a legitimate candidate for the Dallas Cowboys head coaching job, but he ultimately kept his current position at Colorado this offseason.
On The Skip Bayless Show on Wednesday, Sanders said that Jerry Jones showed interest and still has interest in him, but Jones never officially offered him the job.
"No, I'm not going to say it was offered to me," Sanders said (14:20 mark). "I'm going to say it was an opportunity that could've presented itself, and we didn't go to that next level. But Jerry was always honest and straight up from Day 1."

Shortly after the Cowboys and Mike McCarthy parted ways, Sanders wasย reportedย to be a "top candidate" for the job. There wasย reportedlyย "mutual interest" between the two sides.
After Dallasย hiredย Brian Schottenheimer to be their head coach, Sanders reflected on his interest in the job but ultimately said college football is where he belongs at the moment.
"It's intriguing. Now, I did think about it, like, what are the possibilities?" Sandersย saidย on ESPN'sย First Take. "But I think at this point in time, I'm called to the college game.
"I'm called to the young men. I'm called to those cities, those towns, those communities. That's who I'm called for."
Sanders has thrived early on at Colorado. He inherited a program that went 1-11 the year before his arrival and saw improvement in Year 1, finishing the season 4-8. The Buffaloes took a major leap in 2024, going 9-4 and staying in contention for the College Football Playoff throughout the season.
It would have been interesting to see how Sanders would have fared at the professional level, but for now he'll continue turning Colorado's program around.
If Sanders' success continues, perhaps he'll get an official offer from the Cowboys the next time they're looking for a new coach.
