Stefon Diggs' Contract Thrills Patriots Fans as Drake Maye Gets WR1 for 2nd NFL Season

Timothy RappMar 25, 2025

The New England Patriots signed wideout Stefon Diggs to a three-year, $69 million deal on Tuesday that includes $26 million in guaranteed money, giving young quarterback Drake Maye a No. 1 option in the passing game.

Diggs seemed excited for that new partnership on social media:

So were his new teammates, Kendrick Bourne and Christian Gonzalez:

The 31-year-old wideout is coming off a torn ACL, so there are still unknowns about how this contract will play out for New England.

But he's also a four-time Pro Bowler and one-time first-team All-Pro selection who has posted five seasons with 100 or more receptions, six seasons with over 1,000 receiving yards and two seasons with double-digit touchdowns.

Pair up his pedigree with New England's massive need to add offensive weapons this offseason, and you have the recipe for an overwhelmingly positive reaction to the news on social media:

The Patriots may not be done adding weapons on the offensive side, as they hold the No. 4 selection in the upcoming NFL draft and could see Colorado two-way star Travis Hunter still on the board when they pick. While many people view Hunter as more of a full-time cornerback who will have a package of plays given to him on a weekly basis as wideout, adding Diggs and Hunter in the same offseason would surely make Maye a happy quarterback.

Granted, how Diggs both recovers from his ACL tear and how he ages in general could impact any optimism regarding the signing. But for now, the Patriots are a more dangerous offense with Diggs in the mix.
