NFL Rumors: Stefon Diggs, Patriots Plan to Stay in Contact; Contract Not 'Imminent'

Zach BacharMar 20, 2025

The New England Patriots and free-agent wide receiver Stefon Diggs "intend to remain in contact" after meeting, according to Fox Sports' Jordan Schultz.

Schultz reported that the discussion between both sides was described as a "get to know you" and "where you're at medically" type of visit.

The meeting between Diggs and the Patriots "went well," per Karen Guregian of MassLive.com. A potential contract isn't "imminent," though.

Diggs appeared in the first eight games of the 2024 season with the Houston Texans before suffering a torn ACL on Oct. 27.

Sports Illustrated's Albert Breer reported that the veteran receiver's visit in New England consisted of dinner with staffers on Wednesday night, with more meetings and a physical on Thursday.

While there's some uncertainty surrounding Diggs' return and overall impact following the injury, he earned four consecutive Pro Bowl nods from 2020-23. He also surpassed 1,100 receiving yards in five straight years prior to his shortened 2024 campaign.

Diggs would also represent an immediate upgrade for a New England passing attack that struggled last season, as tight end Hunter Henry led the team with 66 catches for 674 yards.

The Patriots have focused on building their offense around Drake Maye as the signal-caller enters his second season in the NFL, signing offensive lineman Morgan Moses and Garrett Bradbury in free agency.

They also agreed to terms with wideout Mack Hollins.

None of the moves should affect New England's pursuit of Diggs, as the team still owns the most cap space in the NFL at $81.6 million (via Over the Cap).

The Patriots' meeting with the 31-year-old may have concluded, but a future deal still seems to be an option.
