NFL Draft Rumors: Jalen Milroe Met with Mike Tomlin, Steelers amid Aaron Rodgers Buzz

Timothy RappMar 18, 2025

Alabama quarterback prospect Jalen Milroe reportedly had dinner with Pittsburgh Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin, general manager Omar Khan and quarterbacks coach Tom Arth before his pro day on Wednesday, per Tom Pelissero of NFL Network.

The Steelers hold the No. 21 pick in the NFL draft and currently have an enormous vacancy at quarterback.

At the moment, the Steelers appear to be playing the waiting game for Aaron Rodgers, alongside teams like the Minnesota Vikings and New York Giants. Russell Wilson could be a backup option if Rodgers goes elsewhere, but in either scenario, adding a young player to groom for the future makes sense.

Milroe is considered the No. 79 overall prospect at the 2025 NFL draft on the B/R NFL Scouting Department's latest big board and the No. 5 quarterback behind Cam Ward, Shedeur Sanders, Will Howard and Jaxson Dart. As for a pro comparison, B/R sees "shades of Jalen Hurts with a jet pack and stronger arm" who boasts an "outstanding blend of elite speed/athleticism, physically dense build, and a live arm [that] fits the trend of today's quarterback archetypes. As he has shown this season, there are encouraging flashes of development as a pocket passer."

So, could Milroe be in play for the Steelers at No. 21?

It's certainly possible. Daniel Jeremiah of NFL Network mocked a quarterback to the Steelers in the first round, though it was Dart. A number of mocks believe that Sanders will fall to the Steelers and will be the pick. ESPN's Mel Kiper Jr. has the Steelers going with Oregon defensive tackle Derrick Harmon, however.

More than likely, however, the Steelers will either end the fall of a player like Sanders at No. 21, take Dart there, wait until the second round to add a player like Milroe or throw a dart at the position in the later rounds. However they approach it, it's hard to imagine the Steelers won't address the need for a long-term option at quarterback at this year's draft.
