Report: Matt Eberflus, Cowboys Meet with Demetrius Knight Jr. Before 2025 NFL Draft

Timothy RappMar 18, 2025

South Carolina linebacker Demetrius Knight Jr. met with the Dallas Cowboys and new defensive coordinator Matt Eberflus during his pro day on Tuesday, according to Jordan Schultz of Fox Sports.

Per that report, Knight met with at least five NFL linebacker coaches during his pro day as well.

Knight is likely to be a Day 2 pick at this year's NFL draft. The B/R NFL Scouting Department ranked him as the No. 94 prospect overall on its latest big board, comparing him to Reggie Ragland and calling him a "good fit as an inside linebacker in either odd or even fronts. But teams may view him as a low-ceiling prospect as he's older, turning 25 years old before his rookie season."

The former quarterback prospect spent his first four college seasons at Georgia Tech (2019-22), registering 51 tackles, a sack, two forced fumbles and a fumble recovery. He then spent a season at Charlotte, where he posted 96 tackles (six for loss), 1.5 sacks, three interceptions and a defensive score.

He followed that up with a another strong campaign at South Carolina last season, posting 82 tackles (eight for loss), two sacks, an interception and three forced fumbles.

As for the Cowboys, bolstering the defense should be a major goal at this year's draft.

The team did add linebackers Jack Sanborn and Kenneth Murray Jr. in free agency, so it's possible the position won't be a major target in the early rounds. Restocking the offensive line and finding a legitimate No. 2 wide receiver will probably be bigger priorities. Adding a dynamic running back or more help on the defensive line also could be in play.

But the board will fall as the board falls, and if Knight is the team's top-ranked player come the third round, they could do worse than add him to the linebacker mix.
