Ja'Marr Chase, Tee Higgins Say Joe Burrow's Comments Helped Bengals Contract Talks
Ja'Marr Chase and Tee Higgins will head into the 2025 season fresh off an offseason in which they each signed extensions, and the Cincinnati Bengals star receivers said quarterback Joe Burrow helped them land the new deals.
“I think it was a big help,” Chase told reporters on Tuesday. “Him just putting out little information, having our back. You know, I think that’s the biggest thing, especially coming from a quarterback.”
Higgins added that Burrow's comments to the front office "definitely helped."
The Bengals inked Chase to a four-year, $161 million deal and gave Higgins a four-year, $115 million deal. Chase's contract made him the highest-paid non-quarterback in NFL history.
Burrow had every reason to vouch for his receivers this offseason. Chase led the league in receptions (127), receiving yards (1,708) and receiving touchdowns (17) in 2024. Higgins had another productive year with 911 receiving yards and 10 touchdowns despite playing just 12 games.
With the help of Chase and Higgins, Burrow was an MVP candidate in 2024 and the Bengals had one of the best offenses in the NFL. Burrow had 4,918 passing yards and 43 touchdowns, both of which were career highs.
The trio of Burrow, Chase and Higgins has one Super Bowl appearance to show for, but the group is still seeking a championship. Cincinnati extending Chase and Higgins means the three will have at least a few more years to finally win a Super Bowl.
