Report: Titans 'Pretty Comfortable' With Cam Ward Amid NFL Draft, Trade Rumors
Amid rumors about the Tennessee Titans potentially trading away their No. 1 overall pick, the team reportedly is fine with staying put and selecting Miami quarterback Cam Ward.
ESPN's Jeremy Fowler reported Monday that the Titans have grown "pretty comfortable" with Ward throughout the pre-draft process.
"From what I gather, they seem pretty comfortable with Cam Ward," Fowler said on the Dan Patrick Show. "There's some momentum there, with other teams I've talked to league-wide that they feel like they're just going to sit there and take Ward. I know the interviews with Ward have gone well. They feel comfortable with, like, the mistakes he's made on the field. They feel like he's done a good job of explaining those and can be coached and correct them. And he's got the obvious upside on top of that, so to equal all that out, you know, you sense a little momentum for the Titans to sit put."

It's easy to understand why the Titans would want to keep their top pick and use it on Ward after the collegiate career he had. The Heisman Trophy finalist finished the 2024 season with 4,313 passing yards, 39 touchdowns and just seven interceptions. He had the second-most passing yards and the most passing touchdowns in all of college football last season.
One of the rumored candidates to trade up to No. 1 is the New York Giants, whoĀ Bleacher Report's NFL Scouting DepartmentĀ projects to trade up and select Colorado'sĀ Shedeur Sanders.
ESPN'sĀ Jordan RanaanĀ reported on Sunday that New York's plan of moving up in the draft "appears dead." After Fowler's report on Monday regarding Tennessee's comfortability with Ward, all signs point to the Giants missing out on a trade for the top pick in this year's draft.
The Titans are hoping to finally find their franchise quarterback after years of instability under center. Tennessee used a second-round pick on Kentucky's Will Levis in 2023, and that pick has not worked out well. Levis had a decent start, throwing for 1,808 yards, eight touchdowns and four interceptions in nine games as a rookie, but struggled last season with 2,091 passing yards, 13 touchdowns and 12 interceptions in 12 games.
With Levis clearly not a long-term option, the Titans likely need to use their first-round selection on a quarterback, and it seems Ward could be the one they choose.
