Laremy Tunsil Hypes Jayden Daniels, Plans to Make 'Huge Impact' After Commanders Trade

Taylyn Hadley Mar 17, 2025

New Washington Commanders addition Laremy Tunsil plans to make a "huge impact" on the team while praising 24-year-old quarterback Jayden Daniels.

“I can make a huge impact,” Tunsil said, per Pro Football Talks' Michael David Smith. “Pass protector, damn good run blocker.”

The offensive tackle will enter his 10th NFL season with the Commanders as second-year quarterback Jayden Daniels' primary protector in the pocket, a role he is looking forward to.

“I can’t wait to block for Jayden Daniels. He’s a baller. Just from seeing him on TV and on film too, and it seems like he’s a better dude,” Tunsil said, per Smith.

The 30-year-old was traded to Washington from the Houston Texans last week in exchange for draft picks. He said he has no hard feelings and understands the team’s focus on retaining younger players, per Smith.

“They’re just trying to keep the young guys together. It’s as simple as that,” Tunsil said, per Smith. “They just paid Stingley today, they just gave that boy the bag. So I truly understand that.”

Meanwhile, the Commanders needed to bolster their offensive line after Jayden Daniels took the sixth-most sacks last season, totaling 47. Tunsil was ranked 10th among offensive tackles in pass block win rate last year with Houston.

The former 13th overall pick in the 2016 NFL Draft began his career with the Miami Dolphins, where he spent three seasons before being traded to the Texans.

The offensive tackle has made the past three Pro Bowls, making him the Commanders' most accomplished lineman. He signed a three-year extension worth up to $75 million two seasons ago and still has two years remaining, counting $21.35 million against the team’s salary cap each season.
