ESPN: 2019 LSU Champs Burrow, Chase, Jefferson, Stingley Jr. Total $666M in Contracts
As if you needed another reminder, the national championship-winning squad for LSU in 2019 was out of this world.
Two stars from that team, wide receiver Ja'Marr Chase and cornerback Derek Stingley Jr. just received massive contract extensions. Fox Sports' Jordan Schultz reported Chase is getting $161 million from the Cincinnati Bengals, while Stingley secured $90 million from the Houston Texans, per ESPN's Adam Schefter.
Ben Baby of ESPN noted the combined outlay for those contracts along with extensions for quarterback Joe Burrow and wideout Justin Jefferson now total $666 million:

Jaguars' Hypothetical Alvin Kamara Trade Offer
That figure doesn't even include the NFL earnings of other notable players from the 2019 team. Linebacker Patrick Queen parlayed his 2023 Pro Bowl nod into a $41 million contract from the Pittsburgh Steelers last offseason. Cornerback Kristian Fulton ($20 million) and safety Grant Delpit ($36 million) have done well for themselves too.
From the moment their national title was secured, it was clear that 2019 LSU earned a level of historic significance. This wasn't your run-of-the-mill champion.
The Tigers had the Heisman Trophy winner (Burrow) along with the recipients of the Fred Biletnikoff (Chase) and Jim Thorpe (Delpit) Awards. Stingley, who was only a freshman that year, was an All-American.
Having Burrow, Jefferson and Chase in the passing game and running back Clyde Edwards-Helaire in the backfield was a cheat code. The defense was just as loaded with Queen, Delpit and Stingley, while Fulton, defensive end K'Lavon Chaisson and cornerback Terrace Marshall Jr. were subsequently picked in the first two rounds of the NFL draft.
Any discussion of the greatest team in college football history is subjective, and there's no definitive answer. Within that conversation, though, the success multiple LSU players have had in the NFL has only strengthened the perception of how good the 2019 Tigers were.
