Aaron Rodgers Rumors: Vikings' Kevin O'Connell '50-50' on Signing QB to Contract
Aaron Rodgers reportedly prefers to sign with the Minnesota Vikings in free agency, but whether the team wants the veteran quarterback is still up in the air.
Per The Athletic's Mike Silver, head coach Kevin O'Connell is torn on if he wants to bring in Rodgers.
"Some people who are pretty familiar with what's going on in that building have told us it's literally 50-50 in their eyes," Silver said on the Just Your Opinion, Man podcast.

Jaguars' Hypothetical Alvin Kamara Trade Offer
On Saturday, Silverย reportedย that the Vikings ownership and general manager Kwesi Adofo-Mensah "will defer to the coach's choice of quarterbacks." O'Connell has a track record of finding the right quarterbacks, most recently bringing in Sam Darnold, who had a career year in 2024.
According to Silver, Minnesota's staff has assessed Rodgers as a quarterback who "remains a highly skilled passer who can still perform at a high level from the pocket, given the right supporting cast." Silver also noted that those within the organization trust O'Connell best "to know and understand what" second-year quarterback J.J. McCarthy would think of the team signing Rodgers.
Rodgers, 41, threw for 3,897 yards, 28 touchdowns and 11 interceptions in 2024 as the New York Jets went 5-12. New York moved on from Rodgers after the season and he has since drawn interest from a handful of teams.
Both the New York Giants and Pittsburgh Steelers are interested in signing Rodgers, but he might not have the same affinity for those two squads. Silver, along withย Dianna Russini and Alec Lewisย of The Athletic, reported that if Rodgers doesn't get an offer from the Vikings, he might retire rather than sign with the Giants or Steelers.
Rodgers seems to still have some football left in him, but he may only be willing to give what he has left to the Vikings.
