Geno Smith Thanks Seahawks, Fans After Raiders Trade: My Love 'Cannot Be Described'

Andrew PetersMar 13, 2025

Geno Smith's six-year run with the Seattle Seahawks ended last week after the veteran quarterback was traded to the Las Vegas Raiders.

On Thursday, Smith thanked the organization and its fans for his time in Seattle.

"My love for Seattle cannot be described in words," he wrote on social media. "I wish I couldโ€™ve done more to express that. Thank You for a memorable 6 years!"

Smith joined the Seahawks in 2019 and took over as the team's starter in 2022 following Russell Wilson's departure. In his first year as QB1, Smith threw for 4,282 yards and 30 touchdowns, leading Seattle to the playoffs and winning Comeback Player of the Year.

He remained the Seahawks starter in 2023 and 2024 before being traded to Las Vegas.

While Smith's tenure in Seattle resulted in nothing more than a playoff appearance in 2022, his time with the Seahawks revived his career. Smith, a second-round pick in 2013, spent his first two NFL seasons as a starter for the New York Jets, but was a backup for nearly 10 years.

Seattle decided to take a chance on Smith as a starter and it paid off. Now, he's looking to continue his success with the Raiders.

In Las Vegas, Smith will reunite with the coach who helped turn his career around. The Raidersย hiredย legendary coach Pete Carroll in January, and he'll captain the ship as Las Vegas looks to get things moving in the right direction.

Things have been bleak for the Raiders over the last few years, but they're trending upward after a successful offseason thus far. Along with trading for Smith, Las Vegasย signedย star defensive end Maxx Crosby to an extension, meaning the Raiders will have one of the best players in the NFL on their defensive line once again in 2025.

Whether having Smith leading the offense and Crosby back on the defensive front will be enough to get the Raiders back to the playoffs remains to be seen.
