Aaron Rodgers Rumors: Delayed Decision 'Not About Money' amid Steelers, Giants Buzz

Andrew PetersMar 12, 2025

As Aaron Rodgers weighs his free agency decision, whatever move he makes reportedly won't be financially motivated.

Per the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette's Gerry Dulac, Rodgers' delay in contract talks with the Pittsburgh Steelers "is not about money." Dulac reported that Pittsburgh has extended an offer to Rodgers, and now the quarterback is just taking his time to make a decision.

The Steelers aren't the only team awaiting a decision from Rodgers. ESPN's Jordan Raanan reported that the New York Giants are waiting to hear back from the four-time MVP, adding that they expected an answer by Wednesday. Raanan also reported that money wasn't a factor from New York's perspective.

A third team looming in the race for Rodgers, the Minnesota Vikings are "entertaining the possibility internally of what it would look like to add Aaron Rodgers into this quarterback room," per ESPN's Kevin Seifert.

With the Steelers and Giants having already extended offers and waiting on Rodgers to make a decision, the Vikings will seemingly need to move quickly if they want the chance to bring in the veteran.

Pittsburgh and New York are desperate for a quarterback this offseason as neither team has a true QB1 on the roster. Minnesota has a bit more breathing room considering J.J. McCarthy, the Vikings' 2024 first-round pick, should be ready to take over as the starter in 2025.

Rodgers was officially released from the New York Jets on Wednesday, making him a free agent for the first time in his career. The 41-year-old threw for 3,897 yards, 28 touchdowns and 11 interceptions a year ago as the Jets finished 5-12.

While he's far from the MVP-caliber quarterback he once was, Rodgers still has something left in the tank. What team he's willing to give what he has left to remains to be seen.
