Report: Cooper Kupp, Seahawks Agree to 3-Year, $45M Contract in NFL FA After Rams Exit
Cooper Kupp has found his new team after spending eight seasons with the Los Angeles Rams.
Per ESPN's Adam Schefter, Kupp is signing a three-year, $45 million deal with the Seattle Seahawks.
Seattle "sold Kupp on a return home (he’s from Yakima, 3 hours away) and being a key focal point of a new-look offense with Sam Darnold," per Jordan Schultz of Fox Sports.
Kupp was quick to confirm the deal on his social media accounts:
The Rams initially hoped to trade Kupp this offseason, but after failing to find a deal, the team released him, setting the stage for him to sign with Seattle in free agency.
Kupp was named the NFL's Offensive Player of the Year in 2021 when he claimed the wide receiver triple crown with 1,947 receiving yards and 16 touchdowns on 145 receptions. That same season, he was named Super Bowl MVP after accruing 92 receiving yards and a pair of touchdowns in the Rams' Super Bowl victory over the Cincinnati Bengals.
Kupp hasn't had the same kind of success in recent years, mostly due to injuries. Kupp played just nine games in 2022 after suffering a high ankle sprain that required surgery. In 2023, he missed seven games before missing seven games again last season.
Still, Kupp has been productive when he's on the field, recording at least 700 yards and five touchdowns in each of the last three seasons. In 2024, he collected 710 yards and six touchdowns in 12 games.
As Kupp looks to return to his former self, the key for the 2025 season will be staying healthy. He may not be the best receiver in the league anymore, but he's more than capable of helping the Seahawks compete for a playoff spot.
Seattle made a splash this offseason by landing star quarterback Sam Darnold in free agency, but the Seahawks also parted ways with their second- and third-leading receivers from the 2024 season.
They traded DK Metcalf who was responsible for 992 receiving yards and five touchdowns, to the Pittsburgh Steelers and released veteran Tyler Lockett, who had 600 yards and two touchdowns last year.
Seattle won't get all of that production back by adding Kupp, but he'll at least give Darnold another talented target alongside Jaxon Smith-Njigba.
