Cooper Kupp's Top Landing Spots After Rams Release WR Following NFL Trade Rumors

Timothy RappMar 12, 2025

Cooper Kupp is on the market.

The Los Angeles Rams reportedly informed Kupp on Wednesday that he is being released, per NFL Network's Tom Pelissero, after the team was unable to find a trade partner.

So which teams make sense as potential Kupp suitors? Let's break it down.

Dallas Cowboys

Dallas Cowboys v Atlanta Falcons

The No. 2 receiver position behind CeeDee Lamb has been an issue for some time now, and Kupp's ability to make plays out of the slot would offer Dak Prescott a nice security blanket. The Cowboys aren't a particularly aggressive team in free agency, so Kupp would probably have to take less than market value to join the Cowboys, but the football fit makes sense.

New England Patriots

Los Angeles Chargers v New England Patriots

The New England Patriots need to get Drake Maye more weapons. Full stop.

The Pats have added wideout Mack Hollins and tight end Austin Hooper this offseason, but neither will move the needle much. Kupp would be a targets machine for the Patriots, providing Maye with the most reliable option he's had in his NFL career to this point.

The Patriots have a long history of effective slot receivers, dating back to Wes Welker, Danny Amendola and Julian Edelman. Kupp would continue the tradition.

New York Jets

Miami Dolphins v New York Jets

Wide receiver became a need after Davante Adams was released, and Kupp is the sort of reliable target (when healthy, the caveat for all of these teams) that would benefit new quarterback Justin Fields.

Garrett Wilson will remain the top dog on the outside, but having a slot receiver like Kupp would complement him nicely. The Jets probably should be getting younger, not older, in the post-Aaron Rodgers world. But Kupp would make sense as one exception to that philosophy.

Jacksonville Jaguars

Houston Texans v Jacksonville Jaguars

Trevor Lawrence has lost some weapons this offseason.

The Jacksonville Jaguars traded Christian Kirk in-division to the Houston Texans, released tight end Evan Engram and signed speedy wideout Dyami Brown in free agency. All in all, that's a net negative, and slot receiver remains a major need in Jacksonville.

Enter Kupp. Lawrence would surely love to have a slot maestro working underneath, and the Jags need all of the weapons they can get. Like every team mentioned, a one-year deal that doesn't break the bank would be the preferred route to acquire Kupp, but it wouldn't be shocking at all if the Jaguars pursued him.

Las Vegas Raiders

This one feels like a stretch, as the Las Vegas Raiders already have an elite targets vacuum in standout rookie Brock Bowers. But there reportedly is interest from the team side:

Fit aside, the Raiders need weapons for new quarterback Geno Smith. In that regard, pursuing Kupp would make sense, though a field-stretching option out wide might be a more logical type of addition.
