Cooper Kupp Rumors: Cowboys 'Not in the Mix' for Rams WR Amid Trade, Release Buzz

As the Los Angeles Rams continue to ponder whether to trade or release star receiver Cooper Kupp, a potential landing spot is reportedly off the board.

Jane Slater of NFL Network put the speculation that Kupp would wind up with the Dallas Cowboys to rest Wednesday, reporting that a team source said the 31-year-old is "not in the mix right now."

Slater's report comes just one day after Denver Broncos radio insider Benjamin Allbright stated that "Dallas is certainly very in the mix" to acquire Kupp from Los Angeles or sign him if he hits the open market.

Earlier this offseason, Kupp announced that the Rams informed him that they intended to trade him despite his desire to remain with the team. ESPN's Adam Schefter reported on Monday that Los Angeles would release him if it is unable to find a trade partner. The team also already brought in a replacement for Kupp when it signed star receiver Davante Adams to a two-year deal when free agency opened.

When healthy, Kupp is one of the most productive receivers in the NFL. However, he's been limited to 12 games in each of the last two seasons due to various injuries. He also has a massive contract with cap hits of $29.8 million this coming season and $27.3 million in 2026, potentially making it difficult for other teams like the Cowboys to add his salary to their books.

Interestingly, Kupp has a deep connection to Dallas. His father, Craig, played quarterback for the Cowboys in 1991, and his grandfather, Jake, was an offensive lineman for the franchise from 1964-65.

After a 7-10 finish to the 2024 season, Dallas could use some extra firepower on offense, but it sounds like Kupp isn't an option to be a third-generation star for the Cowboys as of right now.
