Brooks Koepka Says He'll Complete LIV Contract amid PGA Tour Return Speculation

Doric SamMar 12, 2025

Five-time major champion Brooks Koepka is setting the record straight following comments from Fred Couples that suggested he's unhappy competing in the LIV Golf League and wants to return to the PGA Tour.

Per ESPN's Mark Schlabach, Koepka told reporters during a news conference in Singapore on Wednesday that he intends to remain with LIV Golf through the duration of his contract, though he was noncommittal about his future beyond that.

"I've got a contract obligation out here to fulfill, and then we'll see what happens," Koepka said. "I don't know where I'm going, so I don't know how everybody else does."

Schlabach noted that Koepka's contract with LIV Golf is believed to run through the 2026 season. The 34-year-old left the PGA Tour to join the breakaway league in June 2022.

Speculation surrounding Koepka's commitment to LIV Golf began to swirl when Couples said during a radio appearance earlier this month that the former World No. 1 "wants to come back. I believe he really wants to come back and play the tour." Koepka said he spoke to Couples following his comments and reiterated that the 65-year-old doesn't actually know what his plans are for the future.

"Yeah, Fred texted me after, I guess, the comments came out," Koepka said. "I don't know when it was, sometime last week. Yeah, everybody seems to have their own opinion, and no one asks me. I talked to Fred quite a bit, but we don't go too much into detail about what's going on."

It's been months since the PGA Tour and Saudi Arabia's Public Investment Fund began negotiations on a potential reunification of the men's professional golf leagues. However, multiple hurdles still remain, including how to institute LIV Golf's team-based format.

Koepka is the captain of the Smash GC team and is ranked 22nd out of 55 players in LIV Golf's official standings. He added that his main concern is his improvement going forward, so he's not giving much attention to the outside noise.

"Right now, I'm just focused on how do I play better, how do I play better in the majors, how does this team win, and then we'll figure out next year and how to play better again," Koepka said. "It's the same thing. It's just a revolving cycle. I've got nothing. Everybody else seems to know more than I do."
