Aaron Rodgers Rumors: Contract Terms Not Issue with Giants; Decision Likely Wednesday

Mike ChiariMar 12, 2025

Veteran quarterback Aaron Rodgers reportedly may be on the precipice of deciding where he will play in 2025.

According to ESPN's Jordan Raanan, money is not an issue when it comes to negotiations between the Giants and Rodgers, and the Giants expect to get an answer from Rodgers on Wednesday.

Rodgers spent the past two seasons with the New York Jets, but the Jets announced last month that they would part ways with the four-time NFL MVP this offseason.

There were questions regarding whether the 41-year-old Rodgers would play elsewhere in 2025 or retire after the Jets decided to move on from him, but every indication is that he will land somewhere.

Pro Football Talk's Mike Florio reported that he heard "talk" at the NFL Scouting Combine of Rodgers reaching out to the Giants to gauge their interest in him.

The Athletic's Dianna Russini later followed up with a report that the Giants were "shifting their interest" to Rodgers after they failed to land quarterback Matthew Stafford in a trade with the Los Angeles Rams.

Before long, two other contenders to sign Rodgers emerged in the form of the Pittsburgh Steelers and Minnesota Vikings.

The Steelers saw Justin Fields leave for the Jets in free agency, while Russell Wilson remains a free agent after starting 11 games for them last season. Meanwhile, both Sam Darnold and Daniel Jones departed Minnesota in free agency, leaving the Vikings with only 2024 first-round pick J.J. McCarthy as a viable starting option.

On Tuesday, NFL Network's Ian Rapoport suggested that Rodgers would likely decide between the Giants and Steelers, which would allow Minnesota to move forward with McCarthy:

The Giants released Daniel Jones in the middle of last season, leaving them with Drew Lock and Tommy DeVito at quarterback. With Lock hitting free agency, DeVito is the only quarterback on the roster currently.

Should Rodgers join the Giants, he will remain in New York and go from a team that went 5-12 last season to one that went 3-14.

Rodgers is a surefire future Hall of Famer, but he is the oldest player in the NFL and he tore his Achilles in 2023.

He bounced back to have a decent statistical season in 2024, completing 63.0 percent of his passes for 3,897 yards, 28 touchdowns and 11 interceptions, but he clearly lacked the mobility and big-play ability he had in the past.

The Giants don't figure to be playoff contenders with or without Rodgers, but he could serve as a veteran leader and stopgap option until the Giants find their quarterback of the future in the draft either this year or next.
