Report: Jacoby Brissett Plans to Sign Cardinals Contract as Kyler Murray's Backup
The Arizona Cardinals reportedly addressed the team's quarterback depth behind Kyler Murray.
According to ESPN's Jeremy Fowler, veteran Jacoby Brissett plans to sign with the Cardinals in free agency.
Brissett spent the 2024 season with the New England Patriots, making eight appearances which included five starts. The 32-year-old has played for five teams throughout his career and has 53 combined starts under his belt.

Brissett is expected to sign a two-year contract with Arizona, per Ben Volin of the Boston Globe.
He already has ties to his new team's coaching staff, as Cardinals offensive coordinator Drew Petzing previously served as the Cleveland Browns' quarterbacks coach during the 2022 season (h/t Fowler). Brissett appeared in 16 games with the Browns in 2022.
As a member of the Patriots last season, Brissett suited up in each of their first five contests of the year until he was replaced by rookie Drake Maye. Before he was benched, he completed 58.5 percent of his throws for 696 yards and two touchdowns to go along with an interception.
New England finished with a 1-4 record in his five appearances as a starter.
Brissett made an extended return in Week 8 against the New York Jets after Maye suffered a concussion, finishing 15-of-24 for 132 yards and helping the Patriots secure a 25-22 win.
Murray remains securely atop Arizona's depth chart, but Brissett is now the team's top option to replace him if he misses time.
The two-time Pro Bowl passer suited up in all 17 games for the Cardinals last season, but Murray appeared in just 19 of a possible 34 combined games in 2022 and 2023 due to a torn ACL.
As Arizona attempts to snap a three-year playoff drought in 2025, Brissett provides experienced depth behind Murray.
