Tiger Woods Undergoes Surgery for Ruptured Achilles Injury Ahead of 2025 Masters

Tiger Woods has suffered yet another setback on the tail end of his legendary golf career.

Woods announced on Tuesday that he underwent surgery to repair a ruptured Achilles that tore when he was practicing at home.

"I am back home now and plan to focus on my recovery and rehab, thank you for all the support," Woods added.

Woods has not played on the PGA Tour this year, and he's now set to be out indefinitely. He was initially expected to return last month at the Genesis Invitational that he hosts each year, but he withdrew shortly before the tournament following the death of his mother, Kultida, on Feb. 4. He also missed Friday night's deadline to utilize his exemption for the Players Championship this week.

During his time away from the PGA Tour, Woods remained active by competing in four TGL matches this season. He most recently took part in Jupiter Links' 9-1 loss to Atlanta Drive GC in the regular-season finale on March 4.

This marks the second time in less than a year that Woods has been forced to undergo surgery. In September, the 49-year-old underwent microdecompression surgery on his back, which was his sixth publicly announced procedure on his back over the last 10 years.

Arguably the greatest golfer of all time and one of the most iconic athletes in all of sports, Woods has won a record-tying 82 times on the PGA Tour and owns 15 major championship victories. It won't be easy for him to return from a torn Achilles at this stage in his career, but he will focus on his recovery before determining when he will compete again.
