Williams' return to the game marks the biggest addition to the group of legends. Eric Abel, president of Ted Williams Enterprises, issued a statement to San Diego Studio about the Boston Red Sox icon being featured as a playable character:
"Ted Williamsโ legacy continues to captivate baseball fans across generations as one of the most revered players in the gameโs history. As the steward of his brand, I am committed to finding the best opportunities to share his story and introduce him to new audiences. MLB The Show 25 is a perfect partnership to honor Tedโs legacy and batting prowess. While most of todayโs fans never had the chance to see him play in person, MLB The Show 25 allows gamers of all ages to experience the brilliance of the โSplendid Splinterโ and appreciate his lasting impact on baseball."
Williams hasn't been featured in the game since MLB The Show 20. The Hall of Famer remains the last player to hit at least .400 in a single season (.406 in 1941).
Other MLB and Negro League legends who appear in the trailer or get a name drop include Babe Ruth, Gil Hodges, Hank Greenberg, James "Cool Papa" Bell, Wilber "Bullet Joe" Rogan and Satchel Paige.
Retired modern stars added to the legends rotation include Jose Bautista, Jason Varitek, Darren O'Day and Jason Kipnis.
The game will feature more than 200 legends who will be featured in Diamond Dynasty mode.
MLB The Show 25 will be available for the PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and Nintendo Switch on March 18. Gamers who pre-order the digital deluxe edition will have early access on March 14.
