NFL Rumors: Aaron Rodgers, Giants Have Had 'Great Conversations'; Eye Nabers Pairing

Adam WellsMar 11, 2025

As the free-agent quarterback market continues to dwindle, the New York Giants are doing their best to convince Aaron Rodgers to join them for the 2025 season.

Per NFL Network's Mike Garafolo, the Giants and Rodgers have had "great conversations," with the team trying to sell him on having Malik Nabers as his No. 1 receiver.

Rodgers' list of potential landing spots seems to be down to the Giants and Pittsburgh Steelers.

There have been rumblings that Pittsburgh might be able to get a deal done with the 41-year-old. Pro Football Talk's Mike Florio reported the two sides could have an agreement in place as soon as Tuesday.

Appearing on ESPN Radio (h/t Josh Carney of Steelers Depot), ESPN's Dan Graziano said Rodgers will "probably" end up with the Steelers "unless" the Giants are able to convince him they have a better situation to offer.

It's hard to argue the Giants are in a better spot than Pittsburgh. The Steelers just acquired D.K. Metcalf to pair with George Pickens at wide receiver.

Per ESPN's metrics from the 2024 season, the Steelers ranked 13th in pass-block win rate and 18th in run-block win rate. The Giants were 26th and 27th, respectively.

Nabers is arguably the best skill-position player on either team. He finished his rookie year with 1,204 receiving yards and seven touchdowns on 109 catches, despite a volatile quarterback situation in New York that used three different starters.

Pickens and Metcalf are incredibly talented wide receivers who are at their best with a quarterback willing to throw the ball deep down the field.

Rodgers, for all of the issues he had in 2024 with the New York Jets, was still incredibly effective on throws of at least 20 yards.

Even though Rodgers hasn't historically been warm to rookie pass-catchers, the Giants could try to entice him with the possibility of being able to add a player like Travis Hunter with the No. 3 pick in the 2025 draft.

The Giants have to do something because right now Tommy DeVito is their only quarterback under contract. Rodgers may not be what he was at his peak now that he's 41 years old, but he was far better than what they had under center last season.

Rodgers threw for 3,897 yards and 28 touchdowns in 17 starts for the Jets. The last Giants quarterback to throw for at least 3,500 yards and 25 touchdowns in a season was Eli Manning in 2016.
