Report: Daniel Jones, Colts Agree to Contract; Will Compete with Anthony Richardson
Veteran quarterback Daniel Jones has reportedly made a decision on his next landing spot after testing free agency for the first time in his career.
ESPN's Adam Schefter reported that the 27-year-old is finalizing a one-year, $14 million contract with the Indianapolis Colts. Schefter noted that Jones will now be "the challenger" to Anthony Richardson for the starting quarterback job in Indianapolis.

ESPN's Stephen Holder previously reported that Jones was deciding between the Colts and Minnesota Vikings.
After being released by the New York Giants in November, Jones signed with the Vikings for the remainder of the 2024 season and served as the backup to quarterback Sam Darnold. He didn't see the field during his time in Minnesota, but it appears that he did enough for the team to want to bring him back for the 2025 campaign.
Returning to the Vikings would've allowed Jones to serve as a bridge quarterback to 2024 No. 10 pick J.J. McCarthy, who missed his entire rookie season due to a torn meniscus.
The Colts present a similar situation, as Richardson has struggled to prove himself as a reliable starting quarterback over his first two years in the NFL after being selected with the No. 4 pick in the 2023 draft. It sounds like Jones will have the chance to compete for the starting position, but he most likely will be needed to provide a veteran presence in the quarterback room and aid Richardson's development.
Over his six-year tenure with the Giants, Jones had a record of 24-44-1 as the starter. The Colts are taking a chance that his experience could benefit the offense, whether he's under center or backing up Richardson.
