NFL Rumors: Joey Bosa Offered Contracts by 49ers, Dolphins; Both Under $10M for 2025

Timothy RappMar 10, 2025

Edge-rusher Joey Bosa has at least two suitors in free agency after his release from the Los Angeles Chargers.

According to The Athletic's Mike Silver, both the San Francisco 49ers and Miami Dolphins have made offers to Bosa, with both offering him less than $10 million for the 2025 season.

In San Francisco, Bosa could play alongside his brother, star pass-rusher Nick Bosa, forming a solid one-two punch on the edge.

In Miami, meanwhile, he could join a deep but injury-prone pass-rushing group that currently includes Chop Robinson, Bradley Chubb and Jaelan Phillips. He would also be close to his hometown of Fort Lauderdale.

Either way, it appears he'll be taking a substantial pay cut from what he was scheduled to make with the Chargers, which included a $36.4 million cap hit. By releasing him, the Chargers freed up $25.3 million in cap space, and used some of it to re-sign edge-rusher Khalil Mack to a one-year, $18 million deal.

Bosa, 29, is a five-time Pro Bowler and has four seasons with double-digit sacks in his career, though injuries have cost him 23 games over the past three campaigns. Those injury issues have likely depressed his market, alongside a declining sack rate (14 in his past 28 games, which translates to 8.5 sacks in a 17-game season).

Both the Niners—assuming they also bring back Leonard Floyd—and the Dolphins have enough depth on the edge to utilize him in a rotation, perhaps alleviating some of that injury concern.

And if Bosa can stay healthy, he could offer significant upside.
