Dave Roberts, Dodgers Agree to Record 4-Year, $32.4M Contract Extension

Andrew PetersMar 10, 2025

Following their World Series victory in 2024, the Los Angeles Dodgers have rewarded their manager with a historic extension.

Per The New York Post's Jon Heyman, Dave Roberts and the Dodgers agreed to an extension that will pay Roberts "slightly over" $8 million per year, making him the highest-paid manager per year in the majors.

Per USA Today's Bob Nightengale, the deal is for four years and $32.4 million.

The new deal for Roberts surpasses Craig Counsell's five-year, $40 million contract with the Chicago Cubs for the highest average annual value. The extension will run from 2026 to 2029 and he will be under the final year of his current contract in 2025.

Roberts, a 10-year MLB outfielder who spent three seasons with the Dodgers from 2002-2004, was on the San Diego Padres' coaching staff from 2011 to 2015 before replacing Don Mattingly as the Dodgers' manager in November of 2015.

Under Roberts, Los Angeles has never missed the postseason and has won the NL West eight times. Roberts has also led the team to four NL Pennants and a .627 regular-season winning percentage. The Dodgers have the most regular-season wins (907) in the majors during Roberts' tenure.

Since Roberts took over, the Dodgers have won 100 or more games during the regular season five times.

Roberts and Los Angeles reached the World Series in 2017 and 2018, but lost to the Houston Astros and Boston Red Sox, respectively. During the shortened season in 2020, the Dodgers went 43-17 before winning the World Series over the Tampa Bay Rays, marking their first since 1988.

With the addition of star Shohei Ohtani in 2024, Los Angeles went 98-64 and beat the San Diego Padres, New York Mets and New York Yankees to win the second title of Roberts' tenure.

With Roberts now extended and a plethora of talent added over the offseason, the Dodgers will look to make it back to the World Series in 2025.
