Sam Darnold Rumors: Steelers Expected to Make Contract Offer amid Seahawks Buzz
While the Seattle Seahawks are reportedly expected to pursue free-agent quarterback Sam Darnold, it sounds like they will have some competition.
According to The Athletic's Dianna Russini, the Pittsburgh Steelers "are expected to make an offer to" Darnold when he hits the open market.
"Many around the league believe Darnold will wind up in Seattle, but Pittsburgh is doing its due diligence on any potential options ahead of the new league year," Russini added.

Rookie WRs Who Will Outplay Their Draft Value 📈
The Steelers are facing a dilemma at the quarterback position, as both Russell Wilson and Justin Fields are set to hit free agency this offseason. While the team is believed to be interested in retaining at least one of them, there's no guarantee in either of them returning to Pittsburgh.
The Seahawks also have an opening under center after trading veteran starter Geno Smith to the Las Vegas Raiders on Friday, ending his six-year tenure with the franchise. It should be no surprise that Seattle is interested in Darnold, who is set to be one of the most sought-after players on the free-agent market.
Darnold is coming off a resurgent year with the Minnesota Vikings, in which he led the team to a 14-3 record and earned his first career Pro Bowl selection. He finished with career highs of 4,319 yards and 35 touchdowns through the air against just 12 interceptions.
NFL Network's Ian Rapoport, Tom Pelissero and Mike Garafolo reported on Saturday that Darnold isn't expected to re-sign with the Vikings. Pelissero added that the team will still look to add a veteran alongside 2024 No. 10 pick J.J. McCarthy, who is expected to be cleared to practice in the spring as he works his way back from a torn meniscus that cost him his entire rookie season.
Darnold will have a slew of options in front of him this offseason, so he will have to make the best decision for his next landing spot as he continues his upward trajectory.
