DK Metcalf Rumors: Seahawks Lower Asking Price After Geno Smith's Trade to Raiders

The Seattle Seahawks already traded quarterback Geno Smith to the Las Vegas Raiders, and DK Metcalf could be the next player on the move after they reportedly lowered their asking price for the star wide receiver.

Dianna Russini of The Athletic reported Sunday that Seattle lowered its price for Metcalf and is now willing to deal him for a return package "centered around a second-round pick."

Russini also noted the 27-year-old prefers to play somewhere warm and wants a new contract that will pay him $30 million annually.

Landing a second-round pick for Metcalf would mean another Day 2 selection, as NFL Network's Tom Pelissero reported the Seahawks received a third-round pick from the Raiders for Smith.

It is also less than Seattle initially wanted for Metcalf, as Russini previously reported Thursday it was looking for a first- and third-round pick in return. Yet that was quite steep considering any team that traded for him would likely also be looking to hand out a significant contract since the 2025 campaign is scheduled to be the final one on his current deal.

It also would have been more than teams dealing headline wide receivers have gotten in recent deals with DeAndre Hopkins going for a conditional fifth-round pick, Davante Adams going for a conditional third-round pick, and Amari Cooper and a sixth-round pick going for a third-round pick and seventh-round pick during the 2024 season.

What's more, the Washington Commanders gave up a fifth-round pick for Deebo Samuel this offseason, per ESPN's Adam Schefter.

Metcalf is arguably better than all of those receivers at this point of their respective careers, but other teams negotiating will surely point to them when trying to convince the Seahawks to give him up for less than they want.

The Ole Miss product is a two-time Pro Bowler with three seasons of more than 1,000 receiving yards on his resume. He posted 66 catches for 992 yards and five touchdowns during the 2024 campaign, although he was the No. 2 option statistically behind Jaxon Smith-Njigba (100 catches for 1,130 yards and six touchdowns).

This is an offseason of transition for the Seattle aerial attack, as it also released wide receiver Tyler Lockett in addition to trading Smith.

Metcalf is likely the next domino to fall, and potential suitors will surely like to hear the Seahawks are already lowering their asking price ahead of the start of free agency.
