NFL News: Greg Rousseau, Bills Agree to 4-Year Contract Extension Worth Reported $80M
The Buffalo Bills announced Saturday that they signed pass-rusher Greg Rousseau to a four-year contract extension through the 2029 season.
According to ESPN's Adam Schefter, the deal is worth $80 million with $54 million in guaranteed money.
Rousseau, who was the No. 30 overall pick in the 2021 NFL draft, was set to enter the final year of his rookie contract in 2025, as the Bills previously exercised the fifth-year option in his deal.
After starring collegiately at Miami, Rousseau landed with Buffalo in the 2021 draft, and he has been a highly productive player in four seasons since then.
Rousseau, who will turn 25 on April 5, has started all 62 regular-season games he has played in, recording 182 tackles, 25 sacks, 46 tackles for loss, six forced fumbles and 15 passes defended.
He has also played in nine playoff games during his young career, registering 22 tackles and three sacks.
In addition to matching his career high last season with eight sacks, Rousseau set new career marks with 53 tackles, 16 tackles for loss, 24 quarterback hits and three forced fumbles in 16 games.
Rousseau led the Bills in sacks last season, and he may be called upon to do so again in 2025 unless Buffalo is able to land a big-time pass-rusher via trade or free agency, such as Myles Garrett, Trey Hendrickson, Khalil Mack or Josh Sweat.
Bills general manager Brandon Beane has been hard at work this offseason in terms of locking core players into long-term deals.
Last week, he signed wide receiver Khalil Shakir to a four-year extension worth up to $60.2 million with $32 million guaranteed.
Then, on Friday, the Bills agreed to a four-year, $50 million extension with $25.2 million guaranteed with linebacker Terrel Bernard.
Buffalo has been among the NFL's most consistent teams in recent years, as they have made six consecutive playoff appearances and won five straight AFC East titles.
The Bills have not reached the Super Bowl during that stretch, though, as the Kansas City Chiefs have eliminated them from the playoffs four of the past five years, including last season in the AFC Championship Game.
Re-signing key players and the presence of the reigning NFL MVP in quarterback Josh Allen should ensure that Buffalo remains near the top of the league for a long time to come, but the Bills may also need some major additions through free agency, trade and/or the draft to take the next step.
