Report: Tommy DeVito, Giants Agree to New Contract Amid Aaron Rodgers Rumors

Andrew PetersMar 6, 2025

The New York Giants are still searching for their starting quarterback for the 2025 season, but they have now secured a solid backup option.

The team re-signed Tommy DeVito on Thursday, per NFL Network's Mike Garafolo, keeping him in New York for at least a third season. DeVito, who went undrafted out of Illinois in 2023, has been with the Giants his entire career.

The Giants re-signing DeVito comes amid reported interest in Aaron Rodgers. Art Stapleton of NorthJersey.com reported on The Pat McAfee Show Thursday that New York is "seriously considering" signing the veteran.

"My understanding is yes, they have talked about what it would take to get Aaron here with the Giants, to not leave New Jersey," Stapleton said. "...I think from a football fit, this is something they're seriously considering."

The New York Jets moved on from Rodgers following the end of the season, ending his two-year tenure with the team. The 41-year-old threw for 3,897 yards, 28 touchdowns and 11 interceptions as New York went 5-12.

New York has the No. 3 pick in this year's NFL draft and could use that selection to take a top quarterback like Miami's Cam Ward or Colorado's Shedeur Sanders.

Bleacher Report's NFL Scouting Department's latest mock draft projects the Giants to trade up to No. 1 to select Sanders.

No matter how New York approaches the next few months, it can rest assured knowing it has DeVito on its roster.

DeVito became a fan favorite in 2023 when he appeared in nine games, throwing for 1,101 yards, eight touchdowns and three interceptions while filling in for Daniel Jones. He didn't see as much action in 2024, appearing in just three games and recording 257 passing yards.

DeVito likely isn't the quarterback that can lead the Giants to a Super Bowl, but he's at least a familiar face in what will be a much different quarterback room in 2025.
