Report: Joey Bosa, Bills Agree to $13M Contract after Chargers Exit amid 49ers Rumors

Joey Bosa's time as a member of the Los Angeles Chargers has officially come to an end after he agreed to a deal with the Buffalo Bills.

Per ESPN's Adam Schefter, the Bills are signing Bosa to a one-year, $12.6 million contract in free agency.

Bosa became a free agent for the first time in his career after the Chargers announced on March 5 that they released the five-time Pro Bowler.

The move wasn't totally unexpected, as there were rumblings that Bosa was a cut candidate last offseason before he agreed to restructure his contract.

Releasing Bosa saved the Chargers $25.4 million against the 2025 cap. He remains a productive pass-rusher off the edge, though no longer one of the most feared defensive players in the NFL.

Bosa finished 2024 with 13 quarterback hits, five tackles for loss and five sacks. One encouraging sign is he was able to play 14 games, matching his total from the previous two seasons combined.

Set to turn 30 on July 11, Bosa is one of the most dominant pass-rushers of this era. His 72 sacks since entering the NFL in 2016 is tied with Matthew Judon for 10th-most.

A healthy season from Bosa in 2025 could make him one of the best free-agent bargains. Finding a quality pass-rusher on the open market is extremely rare. As long as he's not asked to be the star on a defense, his impact for the Bills could be very positive as they look to make a playoff push.

Namely, Buffalo needed to replace Von Miller after releasing him this offseason and needed more of a pass rush in general after watching the Philadelphia Eagles hurry and harass Patrick Mahomes in the Super Bowl en route to a title.

The Bills haven't been able to get over the hump in recent years, but the blueprint for doing so was laid bare in February. Adding Bosa should help the Bills crack the formula.
