Maxx Crosby Rumors: NFL Teams Eyed Trade If Raiders Contract Talks Went 'Sideways'

Andrew PetersMar 5, 2025

NFL teams were reportedly prepared to make a push for Maxx Crosby had the defensive end not signed an extension with the Las Vegas Raiders.

Per The Athletic's Dianna Russini, "plenty of teams were keeping a close eye on a potential trade scenario" for Crosby if contract talks had "gone sideways."

Teams will now have to wait to trade for Crosby, as the star inked a three-year, $106.5 extension with the Raiders on Wednesday. The deal, which includes $91.5 million guaranteed, keeps Crosby in Las Vegas until at least 2029.

It also makes Crosby the highest-paid non-quarterback in NFL history. At $35.5 million, he'll make more per year than players like Minnesota Vikings receiver Justin Jefferson ($35 million per year), San Francisco 49ers edge Nick Bosa ($34.2 million) Dallas Cowboys receiver CeeDee Lamb ($34 million).

Crosby has earned that kind of money, racking up 59.5 sacks and becoming a perennial Defensive Player of the Year candidate during his six seasons with the Raiders.

"I told him last night, 'This is not for what you've done, but for what you're about to do,'" Raiders general manager John Spytek said Wednesday during a news conference. "He's chasing championships, and so are we."

Heading into the offseason, NFL Network's Tom Pelissero and Ian Rapoport reported that Crosby's future with the Raiders was "up in the air." Given that report, it makes sense that teams were preparing to pounce at the opportunity to trade for Crosby.

But now Las Vegas has secured its best player to a long-term deal and the team is looking to turn things around after a 4-13 season.

The Raiders are entering a new era with legendary coach Pete Carroll taking over. Extending Crosby is a good start, but Las Vegas still has plenty of work to do.

For now, the Raiders can rest assured knowing that Crosby isn't going anywhere.
