Brock Purdy Rumors: 49ers QB Offered $45M AAV Contract Extension in Initial Talks
The San Francisco 49ers have reportedly made an opening offer to quarterback Brock Purdy in extension talks that is worth around $45 million per season, according to NFL reporter Jason La Canfora.
Such a deal would tie Purdy for 12th in average annual value at the quarterback position with Patrick Mahomes and Kirk Cousins, per Spotrac.

ESPN's Adam Schefter, meanwhile, already hinted earlier on Tuesday that the Niners' offer to Purdy may come in a bit below expectation:
While the thought of Purdy being paid the same as Mahomes understandably rankles one's better sensibilities, the Kansas City Chiefs' superstar and three-time champion signed his deal back in 2020. That pact no longer is a reflection of market value, a situation that likely will be rectified with a reworked deal, potentially as soon as 2026.
The better comparison, then, is Cousins. The Atlanta Falcons signed Cousins to a four-year, $180 million deal last offseason, a significant number for a quarterback who was 36 years old and coming off an Achilles tear.
Purdy, meanwhile, is 25 years old, is not coming off such a significant injury and has led the Niners to a pair of NFC Championship Games and a Super Bowl appearance in his three-year career. While he has yet to shake off his "system quarterback" reputation—that talk didn't go away after he had a down year in 2024 with many of San Francisco's skill-position players injured—there's little doubt that Purdy is the team's franchise quarterback going forward.
The 2024 campaign was rough in San Francisco, as the team finished 6-11 and Purdy was 6-9 as the starter, throwing for 3,864 yards, 20 touchdowns and 12 interceptions while completing 65.9 percent of his passes and taking 31 sacks. All of those numbers were worse than what he posted in 2023.
At some point, Purdy is going to get paid. But as Schefter noted, the Niners have solid leverage in these talks, as they could simply pay Purdy his $5 million this season and use the franchise tag in each of the next two years. That $97 million over three years would still end up being well below market value, though such an approach would also risk souring the relationship with Purdy.
The quarterback and his representation would likely prefer an offer that puts him at $50 million AAV or higher, which would be top 10 at his position. Whether Purdy is actually worth that level of investment—and whether the Niners are interested in such a number, given the factors list above—is another matter entirely.
