Capitals Unveil Cherry Blossom Uniforms for 50th Anniversary in New Video, Photos

The Washington Capitals are debuting uniforms celebrating D.C.'s cherry blossoms for a second straight season.

The Caps unveiled new cherry blossom-themed sweaters Tuesday to celebrate the team's 50th anniversary season.

The sweaters, designed by D.C.-based artist Taylor Kampa Olson, will be worn when arriving to a March 18 home game against the Detroit Red Wings, according to the team.

The National Cherry Blossom Festival begins on March 20 in D.C.

The sweaters feature the Caps' Screaming Eagle logo holding a cherry blossom branch with pink stars in its wings. Players' numbers are also filled with cherry blossom stems and petals.

The uniforms feature the Capitals' 50th-anniversary patch, which debuted during the 2024 NHL Draft, adorned by cherry blossoms.

The sweaters will be auctioned off alongside cherry blossom-themed pucks from March 18-28. Proceeds will benefit the Monumental Sports & Entertainment Foundation.

The Capitals are also selling cherry blossom-themed merchandise and replica jerseys at Capital One Arena and the team's practice facility, according to the team.

This marks the second season the Capitals have celebrated the city's famous trees on their uniforms. The Caps also debuted cherry blossom jerseys in collaboration with Olson last March:

The Capitals have been celebrating the team's 50th anniversary throughout the season and will also be distributing anniversary-related promotional items at upcoming home games on March 9, March 30, April 4 and April 13.

With a 39-14-8 record and 86 standings points, the Caps sit 12 points ahead of the Carolina Hurricanes for the top spot in the Metropolitan Division and seven points ahead of the Toronto Maple Leafs for the Eastern Conference lead.

A strong final two months of the season will keep the Capitals on track to celebrate their anniversary season by entering the playoffs with home ice advantage.
