MLB News: Jose Quintana, Brewers Reportedly Agree to 1-Year Contract After Mets Stint

Doric SamMar 3, 2025

After spending the last two seasons with the New York Mets, veteran starting pitcher Jose Quintana is reportedly set to have a new uniform for the 2025 campaign.

Per Robert Murray of FanSided, Quintana and the Milwaukee Brewers reached an agreement on a one-year contract on Monday.

After being limited to 13 starts in 2023 due to a benign lesion on his rib that required surgery, Quintana bounced back in a big way in 2024. The 36-year-old made 31 starts and went 10-10 with a 3.75 ERA, a 1.25 WHIP and 135 strikeouts in 170.1 innings pitched. It was his first time eclipsing 100 strikeouts in a season since 2019.

Per Theo DeRosa of MLB.com, Quintana had a strong finish to the season with a 2.77 ERA in his final 18 regular-season starts. Over five starts from Aug. 25 to Sept. 18, he allowed just one earned run for a 0.28 ERA. He carried his stellar play into the postseason, allowing no earned runs in his first two starts against the Brewers and Phillies before surrendering five runs against the eventual World Series champion Los Angeles Dodgers.

Interestingly, Quinatana had spent most of his career dominating the Brewers. DeRosa pointed out that the lefty has made 23 appearances against Milwaukee with 22 starts across his 13 years in the majors and posted a 2.98 ERA with 131 strikeouts in 130 innings.

Quintana's signing comes after former Mets general manager Billy Eppler joined the Brewers as a special adviser for scouting and baseball operations on Sunday.

Milwaukee has made the playoffs in six out of the last seven seasons but advanced past the Division Series only once, so Quintana will be motivated to help the team break through as he reaches the tail-end of his career.
