Mel Kiper: Tyler Shough, Omarion Hampton Among Draft's Risers After 2025 NFL Combine

Zach BacharMar 3, 2025

Louisville quarterback Tyler Shough and North Carolina running back Omarion Hampton both made strong impressions at the 2025 NFL scouting combine.

ESPN NFL draft expert Mel Kiper Jr. listed Shough and Hampton among the prospects that improved their draft range following the combine.

"I still have Ole Miss' Jaxson Dart as the class' QB3, but there's momentum for Shough," Kiper wrote. "Scouts might be concerned about his age -- he turns 26 this year -- but he has some impressive traits and threw 23 touchdown passes to six interceptions last season. He could end up being drafted on Day 2."

Kiper also expected Hampton to be off the board as early as the No. 12 overall pick and envisioned a potential fit with the Denver Broncos.

"I projected Hampton at No. 12 to the Cowboys in my Feb. 25 mock draft," Kiper wrote. "And while that might be toward the top of his draft range, he sure seems likely to go in that No. 12 to No. 22 range after his performance in Indianapolis. I could see him fitting with the Broncos at No. 20, for instance."

Shough finished with an official time of 4.63 seconds in the 40-yard dash, the second-best mark among the three quarterbacks that participated. He also recorded a 32-inch vertical jump.

As for Hampton, he posted an official time of 4.46 seconds in his 40-yard dash to go along with a 38-inch vertical jump. He also amassed 18 bench press reps, the fourth-most among running backs at the combine.

Hampton was ranked as the No. 2 running back and No. 10 overall player in the 2025 class on the latest big board from Bleacher Report's NFL Scouting Department.

He surpassed 1,500 rush yards in each of the past two seasons with the Tar Heels, scoring 15 touchdowns and averaging 5.9 yards per carry in both years.

While Shough wasn't listed among the 10 quarterbacks on B/R NFL Scouting Department's most recent big board, his combine results appear to have boosted his draft stock.

He threw for 3,195 yards and 23 touchdowns compared to six interceptions at Louisville in 2024, completing 62.7 percent of his passes.

Shough and Hampton both turned heads with their respective combine performances.
