Aaron Rodgers Rumors: Giants Links Drawing Skepticism from NFL Insiders Ahead of FA

Some around the NFL are pumping the brakes on the idea Aaron Rodgers will merely switch locker rooms at MetLife Stadium, according to ESPN's Jeremy Fowler.

Fowler reported Sunday there are people in the league "putting this in the 'we will see' category" when it comes to Rodgers signing with the New York Giants.

Dan Graziano of ESPN expressed skepticism as well.

"I know they've looked into Aaron Rodgers, but I'm not sure how likely that is to happen," he said.

The Giants were among the teams that chased Matthew Stafford before the two-time Pro Bowler restructured his contract with the Los Angeles Rams. With that door closed, multiple reports linked New York with Rodgers.

Head coach Brian Daboll and general manager Joe Schoen might have their jobs on the line in 2025, so it stands to reason they'd prefer to target a proven veteran over dipping their toes in on a weak quarterback class in the NFL draft.

Having said that, the the Giants' rumored interest in Rodgers leaves you scratching your head.

The 41-year-old is coming off a rough 2024. He threw for 3,897 yards, 28 touchdowns and 11 interceptions while starting all 17 of the New York Jets' games. His 90.5 passer rating was his lowest as a starter across a full season, and he had his second-worst QBR (48.0).

Say what you will of QBR as a stat, but it's worth noting Rodgers finished only one spot ahead of Daniel Jones, the quarterback New York already kicked to the curb, in the category.

That's to say nothing of the drama that followed the four-time MVP during his two years with the Jets. His tenure was a massive failure any way you evaluate it.

Even assuming Daboll and Schoen are feeling a lot of urgency, there are surely better alternatives to Rodgers in free agency.
