NFL Rumors: Jets Linked to Trade for Titans' No. 1 Draft Pick Amid Giants Buzz

Joseph ZuckerMar 2, 2025

The New York Jets have shown interest in acquiring the No. 1 overall pick in the 2025 NFL draft from the Tennessee Titans, according to ESPN's Dan Graziano.

Graziano reported Sunday that "a lot of folks believe the Titans are interested in trading out of the top pick." The Jets and their Big Apple brethren the New York Giants could be potential suitors.

However, Connor Hughes of SNY TV reported the talks were more "due diligence" than "impending deal" at this point:

The Jets are in need of a new quarterback after announcing they're parting ways with Aaron Rodgers. Rodgers is still a member of the team for now, but his release is inevitable after the NFL's 2025 league year officially opens March 12.

New York doesn't have an internal successor, finishing 2024 with Tyrod Taylor as the backup quarterback.

If first-year general manager Darren Mougey and head coach Aaron Glenn want to solve that problem through the draft, then a trade up of some kind is pretty much required.

The Jets have the No. 7 pick, a point at which Colorado's Shedeur Sanders and Miami's Cam Ward are likely to be gone. They were taken within the first three selections in Bleacher Report's most recent mock draft.

The perceived gap between Ward, Sanders and the rest of the QB class means taking anybody else in the first round—and within the top 10 no less—would be a reach. Ohio State's Will Howard is the third-best quarterback on B/R's 2025 big board and he's the No. 51-ranked player overall.

Of course, it's telling how the Titans, a franchise that could use a quarterback of its own, would be willing to trade down at all. Tennessee would almost certainly stay put if it thought Ward or Sanders was a can't-miss prospect.

Maybe the Jets are incredibly high on Penn State edge-rusher Abdul Carter or Colorado two-way star Travis Hunter. Otherwise, their interest in the No. 1 pick telegraphs a desire to jump to the front of the back for one of the two best QBs available.
