Video: Isaiah Bond Runs 4.39 40-Yard Dash After Saying He'd Break NFL Combine Record

University of Texas wide receiver Isaiah Bond did not set a new record in the 40-yard dash at the 2025 NFL Scouting Combine on Saturday despite expressing confidence that he would do so.

Bond ran the 40 in an unofficial 4.41 seconds on his first attempt, followed by an official 4.39 seconds on his second attempt in Indianapolis:

On Friday, Bond told reporters he would best the mark of 4.21 seconds set by former University of Texas and current Kansas City Chiefs wideout Xavier Worthy last year, saying: "I'm going to break the record tomorrow, for sure. I anticipate running 4.20 or possibly, if I'm feeling great, I might run a 4.1."

At the time of completing his 40-yard dash attempts, Bond had the fourth-best unofficial time out of the wide receivers who had run to that point on Saturday.

Texas teammate Matthew Golden (4.30), Florida's Chimere Dike (4.34) and Maryland's Tai Felton (4.38) were the wideouts who bested Bond, per NFL Combine IQ.

Also, at the time of his run, Bond was the second-fastest 40-yard dash performer at the combine in terms of miles per hour at 24.17 mph, according to ESPN's Matt Miller:

Bond, 20, spent his first two collegiate seasons at Alabama before transferring to Texas for the 2024 campaign.

After being a small part of the Bama offense as a freshman, he broke out in 2023, recording 48 receptions for 668 yards and four touchdowns.

Bond didn't take the leap with the Longhorns that many expected, as his production dipped to 34 catches for 540 yards, but he did set career highs with five receiving touchdowns and 15.9 yards per catch. He also rushed four times for 98 yards and a score.

While Bond failed to truly challenge Worthy's combine 40-yard dash record, he still displayed impressive speed and could potentially improve on the 4.40 number at his pro day.

As part of its latest 2025 NFL draft big board released last month, the BR NFL Scouting Department ranked Bond as the No. 9 wide receiver and No. 61 overall player in the draft.

His 40 time likely didn't do much to help or hurt his draft stock, which suggests he remains firmly in the mix to be a second-round pick.

However, Golden may have gone a long way toward solidifying himself as a first-round pick thanks to his 40-yard dash time for 4.30 seconds.

Golden was already ranked as the No. 3 wideout and No. 18 overall player in the draft by the BR NFL Scouting Department, but it is fair to wonder if he may now be in the conversation to be the first wide receiver off the board.
