Friday night marked Ohtani's first game action since undergoing left shoulder surgery in November.
The outing came just five days after Ohtani faced live pitching in batting practice for the first time since undergoing surgery on Nov. 5.
Ohtani hit the first-inning homer over the left-field fence off Angels left-handed pitcher Yusei Kikuchi. Kikuchi's fastball clocked in at 94 miles per hour, per USA Today's Bob Nightengale.
Friday's game comes one year and one day after Ohtani hit a home run in his 2024 Cactus League debut.
That took place against the Chicago White Sox on Feb. 27 of last year. Ohtani hit a two-run home run off right-hander Dominic Leone in the fifth inning of his first game in a Dodgers uniform.
Ohtani's 2024 Spring debut marked his return from offseason elbow procedure. For a second straight season, Ohtani has now provided evidence he can remain an effective hitter despite offseason surgery.
The question still remaining for the Dodgers is when Ohtani can return to pitching for the first time since his 2023 season with the Los Angeles Angels. The club has indicated they hope to have Ohtani back on the mound by May.
