Kansas City Chiefs quarterback and Texas Tech alum Patrick Mahomes surprised a TTU student Thursday with news that his tuition will be covered next fall.
Texas Tech student Blake Porter appeared on Thursday's episode of the Today show after he went viral for making a 94-foot putt during Monday's men's college basketball game between Texas Tech and Houston.

Porter said on Today that he received an iPad, Apple headphones and a cooler for accomplishing the feat, but his biggest prize was yet to come.
After Porter narrowly missed making another 94-foot putt on Today, the hosts played a video message from Mahomes, who revealed the news that Texas Tech athletics will pay Porter's fall tuition.
Mahomes also announced that he and Adidas are making Porter an honorary member of the Team Mahomes NIL initiative. The three-time Super Bowl champion and three-time Super Bowl MVP added that Adidas would be "sending a nice care package your way to support your golf game."
The two-time NFL MVP was in attendance for Monday's Texas Tech basketball game, and he added to the excitement of Porter's moment by celebrating with him after he made the putt.
In his video message to Porter, Mahomes called it an "awesome moment," adding that he was "so excited to be a small part of it."
Per ESPN's Anthony Gharib, Porter studies finance at Texas Tech, and he plans to put the tuition to good use by attending graduate school.
