Matthew Stafford Rumors: Raiders, Giants Eye $90M Contracts amid Rams Trade Buzz

Andrew PetersFeb 28, 2025

Matthew Stafford could reportedly get a significant pay raise outside of Los Angeles this offseason.

Per The Athletic's Dianna Russini, the Las Vegas Raiders and New York Giants are eyeing Stafford on two-year, $90 million contracts, while the Rams prefer a one-year deal worth about $40 million.

"It's the Raiders and Giants that are the most aggressive in all this," Russini said on Scoop City. "And the type of deals we're looking at, or that we're talking about here for Matthew Stafford…it's guaranteed money. Two years, around $90 million. Compared to what the L.A. Rams are looking to offer, which is one-year deals around $40 million."

Stafford, who is 37 and just completed his fourth season in Los Angeles, is coming off a year in which he recorded 3,762 passing yards, 20 touchdowns and eight interceptions. He helped lead the Rams to the divisional round, where they came up just short against the eventual champion Philadelphia Eagles.

ESPN's Sarah Barshop reported Saturday that the Rams gave Stafford's agent permission to gauge Stafford's market while negotiating a reworked contract with Los Angeles.

Russini reported that Stafford will meet with the Rams at their facility on Friday to discuss his future. She added that "a decision is expected soon."

The meeting with Los Angeles comes after Stafford reportedly met with another team. Fox Sports' Jordan Schultz reported earlier this week that Stafford met with Tom Brady, a minority owner of the Raiders, about potentially joining Las Vegas. Schultz noted that "Brady has been leading the charge to get him to the Raiders" in the event the Rams trade him.

Though his best playing days are likely behind him, Stafford would be a significant upgrade under center in Las Vegas. The Raiders never had a true QB1 last season as they used Gardner Minshew II, Aidan O'Connell and Desmond Ridder throughout the year.

With new head coach Pete Carroll likely wanting to avoid going through a rebuild with the Raiders, Stafford could come in and make the team a playoff contender from the jump as long as he has decent talent around him.

The Giants are just as desperate for a starting quarterback this offseason after parting ways with Daniel Jones halfway through the 2024 season. New York has a star receiver in the making in Malik Nabers, but he can only do so much for the Giants offense without the right quarterback under center.

In terms of assets, the Giants own the No. 3 pick in the upcoming NFL draft, while the Raiders have the No. 6 pick.
