Rookie WRs Who Will Outplay Their Draft Value 📈
While Hunter is expected to be off the board early, Phil Perry of NBC Sports Boston revealed that there's a "very real chance" that he'll be available when the Patriots are on the clock.
The 21-year-old's ability to make an impact at both cornerback and wide receiver could entice New England, with Patriots executive vice president of player personnel Eliot Wolf praising his versatility.
"He’s really unique and instinctive at both positions," Wolf told reporters on Wednesday, via Mark Daniels of MassLive.com. "So I think there’s a scenario where he’s probably going to major in one and minor in the other. But I think there’s a scenario where he could play both ways."
Hunter is an intriguing option for the Patriots, as he can potentially serve as quarterback Drake Maye's No. 1 receiver while also playing a smaller role at cornerback alongside Christian Gonzalez.
In 13 games with the Buffaloes last season, Hunter caught 96 passes for 1,258 yards and 15 touchdowns. The Heisman Trophy winner also recorded 36 tackles, 11 passes defensed and four interceptions.
New England used the No. 4 pick to select LSU offensive lineman Will Campbell in the latest mock draft from Bleacher Report's NFL Scouting Department, although Hunter was still available.
As the Patriots navigate through the pre-draft process, they've already held a meeting with Hunter.
