NFL Trade Rumors: Seahawks' Rayshawn Jenkins Given Permission to Seek Deal by Team

Timothy RappFeb 27, 2025

The Seattle Seahawks have reportedly granted safety Rayshawn Jenkins permission to find a trade this offseason, according to Fox Sports' Jordan Schultz.

Jenkins, 31, is only under contract through the 2025 season and is scheduled to have a $7.9 million cap hit for the Seahawks. Trading or releasing him would incur a $2.5 million dead cap charge.

The veteran safety appeared in 13 games during the 2024 season, registering 53 tackles (two for loss), two sacks and a fumble recovery for a 102-yard touchdown. He missed four games on injured reserve due to a hand injury.

In an eight-year career that has included stops with the Los Angeles Chargers (2017-20), Jacksonville Jaguars (2021-23) and the Seahawks this past season, Jenkins has recorded 517 tackles, 10 interceptions, 5.5 sacks and a pair of defensive touchdowns.

Whether there is much of a trade market for Jenkins remains to be seen. Teams may simply wait out the Seahawks, hoping they'll release him after Coby Bryant supplanted him last season. Seattle is likely going to seek out that $5.4 million savings against the cap by moving on from Jenkins, whether it's via trade or release.

There are also some solid safeties potentially available in free agency, including Jevon Holland, Tre'von Moehrig, Justin Reid, Talanoa Hufanga, Camryn Bynum, Jeremy Chinn, Justin Simmons, Julian Blackmon and Mike Hilton. That could further limit Jenkins' trade market, as safety-needy teams look to free agency first to address the position without having to give up any draft compensation.

One way or another, however, it seems unlikely that Jenkins will be returning to Seattle.
